Educator Resources Overview

We offer many different resources and partnerships to help teachers educate their students on the benefits of being energy-efficient. Those resources include our Energy in Action Mobile Interactive Exhibit, our museum partnerships, and our eesmarts program.

Energy in Action Mobile Interactive Exhibit ➞

Current exhibits include:

  • The Energy Grid—Place a token at the top of the wall and watch the path of electrical power as it travels from the generation station to homes or business.
  • Plasma Tube—By placing your hand on the plasma tube you’ll safely experience the built-up charge that will concentrate in the area around your hand.
  • Thermal Tunnel—Walk through the tunnel and see the thermal energy coming from your body on a TV display.
  • Water Wall—See how your daily water consumption adds up by stacking pegs that represent everyday actions that involve water.
  • Generation Station—Use your physical strength to power incandescent and LED bulbs and feel the extra effort needed to illuminate the incandescent bulb.
  • Wind Power Podium—Crank a source of wind power to illuminate an LED bulb.
  • Light Wall—Select a colored peg that correlates to an energy-saving action. All pegs together will create a lit image representing the actions everyone will take to save energy. Great for a class photo!
  • Pass It On—At the end of your visit inside the exhibit, place a stamp on the poster for each person you plan to share your newly learned positive energy messages.
  • Solar Power—Learn about the rooftop solar panels on the trailer and see various meters and gauges that are powering the panels.
  • Careers—Explore various green jobs in the energy efficiency and sustainable energy field.

While waiting for a chance to walk through the exhibits, one or more experiments may take place outside the trailer:

  • Energy Relay
  • Heat Insulation Demo
  • Energy Costs Money
  • Sources of Clean Energy
  • Electricity Savings Tips
  • Energy Community Pledge
  • Power Consumption
  • Carbon Footprint Awareness
  • Water Conservation
  • Bike Station

Educational Programs and Partnerships ➞

Get ready for hands-on experiences learning about energy, conservation, renewable energy, and the benefits of smart energy choices at museums, science centers and other locations around Connecticut.

As part of the Energize Connecticut Sponsors' educational and public outreach efforts, several interactive exhibits related to energy, energy efficiency and clean renewable energy sources are available to visitors throughout the state. These exhibits engage museum visitors, students, and educators to explore the technologies and science related to the topics of energy conservation, efficiency, renewable energy and protecting our environment.

Partnering with key educational museums, science centers, technical high schools and municipalities across the state, these exhibits raise awareness in school-age children, educators, and parents about the economic and environmental benefits of energy efficiency.

Call 877-WISE-USE (877-947-3873) for more information.

Since 2006, the Connecticut Technical High School System has partnered with the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund and Clean Energy Finance & Investment Authority to provide training on energy-efficient and renewable energy technologies for the schools’ architectural, carpentry, electrical, HVAC and plumbing faculty, and students.

Designed and built by students and faculty, each E-House, a 16’ x 20’ structure, incorporates solar photovoltaic and solar thermal systems, weatherization and energy-efficient technologies and labs in its design. The E-House initiative gives students the opportunity to conduct hands-on field work and earn professional certifications in these various labs, preparing them for a “green” career after graduation.

The vision of the eesmarts program is to facilitate students’ understanding of the science, math, and technology related to clean, renewable energy and electricity to create an energy-efficient ethic among all school-age students in Connecticut.

Through its K–12 curriculum, eesmarts helps you teach the importance of becoming energy smart through free professional development in-class lessons, and outreach on energy, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and electricity.

The eesmarts curriculum fully aligns with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and Common Core Standards for Math and English Language Arts.

The mission of Green STEP is to supplement existing high school curriculum with specialized training workshops related to science, technology, engineering and math, known as S.T.E.M., sustainability and energy efficiency, while increasing student awareness of job opportunities in the fields of sustainability, energy efficiency, including weatherization and home performance, and clean energy production.
